Apps and Online Sites that help parents!

I did say that I will be writing about specifics on how to find childcare, but three things happened:

  • The New York Times had a great article two days ago on “Apps and Other Digital Tools that Lend a Hand to New Mothers” .
  • Same evening, I got to meet so many wonderful Vancouver based mom-entrepreneurs at a reception for women in business hosted by the Premier Christy Clark, the Minister of Small Business Naomi Yamamoto and the extraordinary Pamela Martin, it occurred to me that it may be useful to give you a local version of the New York Times piece.
  • And with Oprah’s visit to Vancouver yesterday, inspiring thousands with her message to “find and pursue your calling” – I knew that I simply HAD to share these great “you must know about these asap” online tools that would make your life easier as a new (or experienced) mom BECAUSE they were created by amazing Vancouver women entrepreneurs that were clearly in business because they had pursued their calling. You can’t fake passion.

So here is the quick list of some of the inspiring Vancouver women I met and the services they offer to busy parents:

  • Awesome online stores will save you hassle from finding hard to find quality baby/kids products YayaBaby (founded by Janelle Bakker) well as whimsical and unique gifts and accessories – RaspberryKids (founded by Sue Sinclair) to Spud.ca that will help you get regular deliveries of  healthy food and environmentally sound products for babies and kids (and there is a discount through the Vancouver Mom blog)
  • Online yoga program that works – My Yoga Online (Michelle Trantina) is an amazing online experience for anyone interested in yoga, experienced or not – thousands of videos, updated daily that help you get fit and have fun, in any location with access to the internet. Featuring the best yoga teachers in Vancouver and in the world, this site simply blew my mind.
  • Games for kids, especially for girls – bringing the technological divide: Silicon Sisters Interactive founded by Brenda Gershkovitz has a new game for tweens and teens School 26

If you know of others, would you please let us know? I was also impressed with Anita Fantov, the dynamic founder and owner of the Kinder Cafe – 3000 sqf of whimsical indoor playground fun for kids when the weather is not as nice. Guess what I will be doing tomorrow? 😉

Have a great weekend everyone, and I promise – I will finish advice on options for finding childcare next week. 😉
